Magic Keyboard, Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, Magic Mouse 2, and Magic Trackpad 2 have a built-in rechargeable battery that lets you use the devices for extended periods between charges.
You can check your device's charge level by choosing its name from the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
I managed to get the keyboard working again by removing the batteries through the electronics compartment (remove grey center cover, slide electronics out). It did take some effort (including driving a screw into the stuck battery and yanking it out with pliers) to remove the stuck batteries and all the remains of the leakage, but I ended up. Your battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 1000 complete charge cycles. The one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. Apple offers a battery replacement service for all MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook.
When it's time to charge your device's battery, connect a Lightning to USB cable to its Lightning port, then connect the other end of the cable to your Mac or a USB power adapter.
For the fastest battery charging performance, be sure your device is switched on when connecting the Lightning to USB cable.
Magic Keyboard, Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, and Magic Trackpad 2 can be used while charging. Magic Mouse 2 is unavailable for use while charging.

I was asking whether others who use the same model have had a similar problem and if so, whether Apple fixed the problem without charging them..
I was not expecting to have any issue with my 2015 MacBook Pro. Its battery did 157 cycles and failing.
Most people who come to these forums have technical support questions, not so much to answer polls about battery issues for a rMBP 2015 model.
Mac Keyboard Battery Replacement
Every Apple store is at it's own discretion concerning repair issues on out of warranty repairs. I can say being diplomatic and polite goes a long way in trying to win over the genius bar. I can also suggest the first floor genius is going to repeat the company line that it does not qualify—here you can ask for a manager in an effort to present your facts of your case. If the manager has a sympathetic ear there is always a possibility; however if your Mac was under the extended warranty AppleCare there would be no issue—this is the quandary.
I will add to continue to run current through the battery, you continue the potential of further expansion, and further damage to trackpad, keyboard, logic board—not a pretty picture, your $500 and 4 weeks might be a deal in comparison.
